It may be early in the year 2011, but all of our Fractional Property Owners already know that there are opportunities for winter sports across the street from the Mountain Club at Cashiers. On Christmas Day, the Cashiers-Sapphire area received 10 inches of snow in the lower elevations and as much as 18 inches of snow in the higher elevations. This natural snow helped with the snow conditions at Sapphire Valley Ski Area which is across the street from our private residence club.
Everyone is not aware of this jewel that is nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. Sapphire Valley Ski Area has an average elevation of 3,400 feet. The ski area consists of a 1,600 foot main run with a vertical drop of 200 feet and a learning center slope. The learning center slope along with certified instructors and a new moving carpet lift are the perfect combination for families to learn how to ski or snowboard. The lift lines are typically very short and this helps provide for greater quality time for the family.
Sapphire Valley Ski Area is open on Mondays from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m, Fridays from Noon to 9:00 p.m., Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m., and Sundays from 9:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.

All indications in the Cashiers-Highlands area are pointing to Fall being just around the corner.
As you drive down Highway 64 or 107, you will catch a glimpse of school buses loaded with children – the new school year has started. Instead of playing in the swimming pools, the kids are practicing soccer.
A big event at the end of the summer season is the 13th Annual Cashiers Designer Showcase. It is being held August 21st until September 5th at Whisper Fade Lodge located in Wade Hampton Golf Club. Hours are Monday through Saturday 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Sunday. This year’s event will benefit the Cashiers Historical Society with the grant recipient being the Cashiers Valley Community Council.
If you look closely at the trees, you will notice the one lonely leaf that has already started to change colors. Fall is a perfect time to be in the mountains and explore the Cashiers area. Your choices for activities and places to eat are endless – just remember to pack that lightweight jacket or sweater, it does get cool at night!
