During Fall a brilliant show of dazzling color is painted across the mountains of Western North Carolina. From the bright yellows to vibrant reds, the leaves transform in front of your eyes, showing their rich and intense hues. Every year, people flock to their Cashiers vacation home to take in the fall foliage, to catch a glimpse of nature’s splendor!

Kathy Gould Matthews, Western Carolina University’s fall foliage forecaster has predicted that the color display this year is going to be vibrant.  The colors started turning on the trees in the higher elevations surrounding the Cashiers-Highlands Area at the end of September.  This past week, the casual observer has noticed the color change while driving down Highway 64 or Highway 107 in Cashiers.  The first frost in the area was this past Tuesday (October 5^th); the first frost tends to signal the PEAK of leaf season is 3 weeks away (my prediction for this year is October 26^th). 

Don’t forget to spend time in the mountains of Western North Carolina at your mountain vacation home enjoying the colorful landscape that nature has produced for us.  While you are here, don't forget to see the "shadow of the bear" near Whiteside Mountain. It will be visible daily from about 5:30 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. until the end of October.
